Transportation Internship

Position Overview:

As a Transportation Intern – you will gain hands on experience in the wholesale grocery distribution industry – focusing on Transportation Logistics and Operations.  You will be working closely with our Transportation team to support daily activities and contributing to the overall success for our supply chain operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assisting in developing efficient delivery routes for our fleet of vehicles, considering factors such as traffic conditions, delivery schedules and fuel efficiency
• Analyzing transportation data to identify trends, patterns and areas for improvement.  Providing insights and recommendations to optimize the delivery processes and reducing costs
• Collaborating with drivers, warehouse staff and other relevant departments to ensure smooth communication and coordination of transportation activities
• Tracking and monitoring the performance of transportation operations, including on-time deliveries, vehicle utilization, and fuel efficiency.  Reporting findings to the transportation manager
• Assisting in maintaining accurate and up to date transportation records, including driver logs, vehicle maintenance records and delivery schedules
• Ensuring compliance with transportation regulations and industry standards.  Staying informed on relevant laws and guidelines to support the companies commitment to safety and legal requirements
• Participating in brainstorming sessions and contributing ideas for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives within the transportation department
• Perform other duties as assigned by leadership

Environment:

• Warehouse Office – approx. 65F – 75F

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday
• Standard Business Hours
• Flexibility to work various or additional shifts, as needed including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Experience:

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field
• Preferred technical experience: Microsoft Office Suite – Excel etc.

• Working in a team based environment: Working independently and as a team player to ensure our customers are receiving orders timely and with the highest quality
