Custodian

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Custodian for the Lakeland Corps, located in Lakeland, Florida.

Job Summary:
Cleans and Maintains the buildings and grounds to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same on a daily basis.

Essential Functions:
Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks.
Cleans windows; folds and stores laundry and linens.
Empties trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds.
Assists in setting up meeting rooms; set up tables and chairs; puts ice in glasses and sets out drinks.
Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order.
Cleans kitchen and dining area; washes dishes; cleans and defrosts refrigerators; cleans stoves and ovens.
Sorts and stocks pantry items.
Assists the public in unloading and carrying donations.
Assists in performing housekeeping work at Community of Hope when requested.
Drives Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver mail and other miscellaneous items or to transport passengers on occasion.
Performs other related work as required.

Education and Experience:
No formal education required, six months experience performing general custodian/janitorial duties, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:
Valid State driver's license may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning activities for buildings and grounds.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Ability to maintain driving ability according to State, DOT, and Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications.

Mental and Physical Abilities:
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read and communicate the English language.
Ability to exert the physical energy required to perform housekeeping and minor maintenance work.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt, and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
