The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for a Residential Services Manager  for the Austin Area Command, located in Austin, Texas.


Job Summary

Seeking energetic, compassionate, and positive team player to help oversee the management of residential services in a housing focused emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The Residential Services Manager directly supervises the reception and intake function of shelter as well as the shift supervisors and the dormitory monitors.  The RSM is tasked with promoting a welcoming and safe environment for clients in crisis who are admitted without regard to gender of adults. The RSD works closely with the case management, property, and food service managers as well as on-site therapist, teachers, contract security guards, and volunteers.  Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations.  Assists the shelter director as needed to maintain high quality trauma informed care with a focus on meeting the safety and developmental needs of children.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of residential operations. Knowledge of social services provided to at risk populations such as:  mentally ill, homeless, disabled and substance abusers within a residential setting. Knowledge of the general office practices and procedures, as well as basic accounting and/or bookkeeping. Ability to supervise, prioritize, motivate, monitor and evaluate the work of subordinate employees. Ability to provide crisis intervention and implement emergency procedures with staff and residents. 

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Services, Business Administration, or related field, And Three to five years working in social services or non-profit human services agency with experience working with at risk target populations such as:  mentally ill, homeless, disabled and substance abusers Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Valid State Drivers License

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to drive a vehicle safely and in compliance with all laws and regulations Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism. Duties are usually performed seated.  Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a residential facility where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like, but may be exposed to other discomforts associated a shelter environment.
