Loss Control Specialist
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Loss Control Specialist for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia.
Conducts on-site survey inspections to ensure compliance with the loss control program throughout the Southern Territory. Ensures loss control programs are in compliance with established risk management and property management policies and procedures. Conducts on-site surveys to identify and evaluate Territorial Property & Casualty risks; Recommends preventative activities with the Director of Loss Control and the Risk Management Secretary. Conducts on-site inspections of all swimming pools and camps during camp season annually; assists with ensuring properties and required paperwork are in compliance with established standards and regulations.
Receives and responds to questions from officers and employees regarding property claims; reviews and determines if outside adjuster’s report is consistent with established policies and procedures and discuss irregularities directly with Director of Loss Control.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of risk management and loss control practices, principles and methods or trends; especially in the areas of property & casualty loss prevention, loss reduction, and training techniques. Comprehensive knowledge of laws, rules and regulations relating to property & casualty risk management and loss control programs and practices. Knowledge of the property valuation process. Knowledge of general recordkeeping practices and procedures. Knowledge of and ability to perform complex mathematical computations. Knowledge of basic insurance principles and practices. Ability to apply the principles of measurement and analysis to evaluate safety performance and the ability to identify and develop appropriate corrective measures. Ability to effectively plan, develop, and implement process improvements across business systems. Ability to serve as an effective liaison to third party administrators (Chesterfield Resources) in order to identify and make progress toward mutually beneficial goals. Ability to originate insurance coverage and process insurance claims in accordance with established policies and procedures including ability to determine which policy/procedure applies in each given case. Ability to perform property valuations in a timely and accurate manner. Ability to perform complex accounting and bookkeeping practices. Ability to prepare and maintain an accurate and complete record-keeping system. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships throughout the Southern Territory. Ability to respond to inquiries from the field, provide accurate information, and resolve claims' problems in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to perform work independently and to ensure compliance with property insurance policies and time constraints. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to manipulate numbers. Ability to sort documents alphabetically and numerically. Ability to keypunch information into a computer.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field, And Four years of progressively responsible loss control experience Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License
Georgia Adjusters License (preferred)
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 30 lbs.) in order to conduct physical inspections of property. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Ability to travel across the Territory up to 50% of time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with the changes in weather except when involved in on-site inspections; with some exposure to outdoor temperatures and driving a vehicle.
