Assistant Unit Director for Programs-NE_Boys and Girls Club 4-353
The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for Assistant Unit Director for Programs (Program Director), located in Sapulpa Oklahoma at our Creek County Boys & Girls Club.
The rate-of-pay for this position is $14 hour and is a non-exempt hourly position.
Brief Description of Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates all programs conducted at the Boys & Girls Club through subordinate leaders for various programs such as education, physical fitness, cultural enrichment, and environmental programs; ensures that programs develop the character of the youth. Plans and implements special events and fund raisers; prepares and maintains statistical records of all activity and prepare reports representing progress of programs. Assumes additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Unit Director and the Assistant Unit Director for Athletics
Provides guidance to youth on a daily basis to assist them in their personal development
Responds to discipline issues that arise among members and/or staff; meets with parents and/or staff to resolve problems; provides referrals to outside services and agencies as needed.
Provides guidance to individual members and their parents as needed; maintains pertinent records regarding the same
Maintains discipline and acceptable behavior of members which will create and atmosphere of friendliness and security during all program periods, enabling all members to feel welcome and comfortable at the club.
Interacts and builds positive relationships with the parents of the children who are members of the club.
Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates educational, personal adjustment, citizenship, leadership development, and cultural enrichment programs outside of regular events; ensures that all assigned programs are carried out in compliance with the policies and objectives of the organization.
Plans, coordinates and supervises monthly celebrations related to academics
Assists with cleaning duties around the building where needed i.e. sweeping/mopping hallways, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, taking out trash
Assists Unit Director with objective evaluation of the programs at the club
Assists in maintaining the neatness and orderliness of the facility and equipment
Assists with the operation of all maintenance of all physical properties in the assigned area
Assumes additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Unit Director and the Assistant Unit Director for Athletics
Supervises, reviews, and evaluates the effectiveness of the physical education program leaders; ensures that program objectives are in compliance with health, physical fitness, and safety standards as well as the standards of the Boys & Girls Club of America and The Salvation Army.
Supervises, reviews, and evaluates the effectiveness of the cultural enrichment and environmental program leaders; ensures that Club members receive needed educational assistance with school studies; ensures that Club educational programs create an environment for the members.
Plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the work of program personnel; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides recommendations for salary and hiring/firing.
Provides direction and supervision to all volunteers and student interns
Administrative & Financial(15%)
Prepares monthly statistical and written progress reports for the Director’s review
Creates a budget for the Summer Day Camp Program for Director’s review
Requests petty cash advances when necessary for program budget
Develops an ongoing calendar of events for the club programs
Maintains tracking records on attendance, grades andbehavior of members
Plans, coordinates, and implements membership, outreach, and community-based outreach projects i.e. schools and churches as requested by the Unit Director in order to stimulate membership growth
Assists Unit Director in communicating with schools to coordinate club participation in school events and to promote community awareness of Club programs and activities.
Recruits, selects, and trains volunteers in accordance with organizational policies and procedures; conducts recruitment visits in the community
Plans and coordinates parent outreach and community events as requested
Coordinates and supervises quarterly school year and monthly summer community service activities for members including those in which members go off-site
Provides first aid to injured persons when necessary
Assist with weekend and night events as requested by the Unit Director
May drive or transport members or staff in Salvation Army Club vehicles
Decorates club for special occasions
Opens and closes club building as scheduled; is a key holder
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to build and maintain positive and professional relationships with youth and their parents as well as community leaders participating in the programs.
Ability to respond to and attempt to resolve conflicts that may arise among the members and/or staff in a calm and professional manner
Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and implement special events and fund raisers
Ability to instruct, supervise and evaluate the work of program development leaders to ensure the continual development of youths’ character
Ability to prepare accurate and complete statistical reports representing the activity and progress of programs
Ability to evaluate program effectiveness and compliance with quality standards as well as the strategic plan of the organization
Knowledge of the principles and practices of youth program development
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language
Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education and Experience
Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Social Serves, Child Development or a related field, AND two years progressively responsibleexperience developing and implementing developmental youth programs such as physical fitness, education, cultural enrichment and environmental programs, OR any equivalent demonstration of training or experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
CPR and First Aid Certified, Valid State Driver License
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.)
Duties are usually performed seated.Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
