The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for Social Services Clerk for The Salvation Army Area Command, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Job Summary:

Ability to organize, handle paperwork flow, and communication necessary for an administrative office. Aptitude to handle, with patience & courtesy difficult situations dealing with public.

Essential Functions:


Administrative Support / Clerical:

Ensure, at all times, the confidentiality of clients and files.

Answer telephone, in-person inquiries, and make appointments.

Process statistical reports for the department and deliver to the appropriate personnel.

File all case files in a timely manner. Maintain organization filing systems. Keep file room clean and neat.

Relieve the Front Desk associate for his/her breaks, staff meeting, and as otherwise necessary. Answer phone, attend to guests needs as they arrive, help keep front desk records neat and organized and make proper labels as needed.

Enter data for programs, including client registration forms and service transaction records.

Interview clients and provide assistance and referrals as appropriate and necessary.

Service Work:

Assist with orientation of clients. Oversee the registration process, verifying eligibility and documentation, interviewing clients, and entering client information into database in order to process commitments

Communicate with utility companies concerning client bills and Salvation Army promises and related consumer payment criteria.

Assist with all volunteers.

Assist with home visits, outreach fairs and off-site service provision as necessary.

Willingness to learn new procedures and databases as required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy.

Ability to work cooperatively with directors and staff of other agencies.

Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.


Knowledge of effective and efficient record keeping practices and procedures.


Knowledge of basic mathematics.


Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.


Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in concentration.


Ability to exert mental/visual effort required due to sustained periods of concentration.


Ability to deal with clients who may be frustrated or distraught.


Ability to organize, meet deadlines and follow-up with assignments.


Ability to greet and welcome clients.


Excellent telephone and communication skills.


Knowledge and proficiency in Windows environment, using Microsoft Word and Excel.


Ability to meet attendance requirements.


Ability to concentrate in a disruptive environment.


Ability to move from office setting to disaster assistance center setting.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education and Experience:

HS Diploma or GED AND one-year experience performing job related responsibilities preferred OR any equivalent demonstration of training or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Physical Requirements:

Ability to meet attendance requirements.


Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.


Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort associated with changes in weather or discomfort associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
