Position Summary

The Camps Operations Assistant will work with site leadership, the supply team, and education staff to help with smooth day-to-day operations of summer programming. The Operations Assistant will work closely with Site Leads and Camp Aides to support supply chain operations at the designated site.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist Site Leads with daily operations like pick-up/drop-off, supervising campers, and facilitating breaks
  • Modeling safe, effective and equitable science facilitation methods
  • Assist educators with administrative tasks in support of daily operations
  • Assisting admin with administrative tasks such as paperwork, photocopying, etc.
  • May include supervising campers in Extended-Day program
  • Leading daily camp operations including set-up and tear down of signage, distributing camper lunches, and other operational needs
  • Assist Site Leads with the creation and distribution of daily camp letters to communicate program activities to families and guardians
  • Loading and unloading camp supply vans
  • Monitor and maintain supply systems for an individual camp site, including physical supplies, as well as digital resources and databases
  • Assess risk and ensure camper safety, including responding to first aid situations
  • Work with education and supply team to ensure smooth communication and distribution of camps supplies for assigned site
  • Comply with all camp procedures including COVID-19 and other health and safety policies and supporting campers and others in the camp space with doing the same
  • Providing feedback and program evaluation to Camps for Curious Minds leadership
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ensure campers of all ages and from diverse backgrounds are welcomed and served in a manner that makes their experience positive, memorable and consistent with Pacific Science Center’s mission, vision, and values
  • Approach each interaction individually and without expectation or judgement of content knowledge level of interest, or background in science
  • Work independently as needed as well as within a team
  • Multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Experience working with youth from grades Pre-K-8th
  • High School Diploma (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 18 years of age at the start of camp
  • Attending training sessions at beginning of summer season
  • First Aid/AED/CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • WA State Food Handlers permit or willingness to obtain before start date
  • Available to work a minimum of 7-10 full weeks of the summer season depending on location placement 

 

Desired

  • Informal education experience
  • Past summer camp experience
  • Passion for science education and early childhood development
  • Associate’s/Bachelor's degree or currently in pursuit
  • Available to work all 10 weeks of the summer season (June 24-August 30)
  • This is a temporary, full-time summer position
  • Due to a variety of camps and locations, hours can vary daily, typically totaling 40 hours per week during the camp season
  • Some camps are full day while others are half day only, this position remains full-time
  • A uniform t-shirt is provided and required to be worn while on the job
  • This position may require driving a 15-passanger van and assuming responsibility of the safety and security of all passengers

 

Compensation

Pay is based on several factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience.  

 

Starting Base Salary Rate:  $21.00 / hour
