Job Description

• Greets patient and provides instructions on procedures. 
• Positions patient and adjusts equipment, selecting length and intensity for radiation exposure on individual basis.  Observes patient for vital signs during procedure.
• Follows safety standards and uses radiation protection when operating radiologic equipment.
• Examines radiologic images for technical quality and diagnostic acceptability.
• Delivers images in a digital format to radiologist for reading/interpretation.
• Releases patient upon completion of examination.

Physical/Mental Demands

• Must be able to lift 20 pounds and push and pull several hundred pounds.
• The environment can be very busy and stressful.
• Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people.
• Work may require hand dexterity for Radiology equipment, stooping and bending to retrieve files and supplies.
• Must have mobility to room patients, help patients onto table, complete errands.
• This position requires sitting and standing for long periods of time.

Required Skills

• Skill in properly positioning patients to provide quality imaging.
• Skill in trouble-shooting equipment.
• Skill in training co-workers in equipment operations

Knowledge Skills

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Knowledge of radiologic equipment and testing.
• Knowledge of safety hazards related to radiology.

Education/Experience Requirements

EDUCATION:  Completed accredited course in Radiologic Technology or Associate Degree in Radiologic Technology.

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of two years’ experience in radiology imaging modalities; one year of mammography experience preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:  Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  Current TN state license as general diagnostic radiographer.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Medical offices and mammography exam rooms. Exposure to radiation, communicable diseases.
