RESIDENT ENGAGEMENT ASSISTANT

Lead us into the future!  Willowbrook, a premier newly established assisted living community with a remarkable history, is seeking a Resident Engagement Assistant.  We are looking for an adventurous, creative individual who is interested in enriching our residents’ lives by helping create an environment that promotes a high quality of life through recreational programming.

 

This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week minimum, with a range of hours including mornings and evenings.

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Assists with the planning, development, coordination, and implementation of a therapeutic activity program that meets the functional levels, needs, and interests of each resident.

  • Carries out specific programs including independent, recreational, religious, intellectual, and community related projects.

  • Motivates residents to participate in activity programs.

  • Completes appropriate records, in an accurate and timely manner, indicating resident attendance and participation in individual and group activities.

  • Operates a bus or van in transporting residents to and from various programs.

  • Participates in in-service training programs.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Education and Experience required:

  • Possession of a high school diploma and one year experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

  • The ideal applicant will have an education background in recreational therapy or related human service field and experience with planning or hosting events.

Licenses or Certifications required:

  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to have patience and maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations

  • Ability to work independently, to prioritize tasks, and organize work efficiently

  • Ability to make decisions and accept responsibility for the consequences

  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with residents and staff

  • Ability and willingness to act as a role model in conduct and appearance

  • Understanding and awareness of the aging process and aging population

  • Respect for resident rights and confidentiality

  • Basic computer skills

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • This position involves moderate physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and light physical demands, such as exerting up to 30 pounds of force frequently.

  • Must be able to perform manual tasks including moving tables and chairs, transporting residents long distances in wheelchairs, and loading and securing wheelchair residents in facility bus.
