The Position


As a key member of the Lumos Leadership team and trusted advisor to the CFO, the Controller will oversee financial operations and reporting, along with treasury and tax. This leader will possess a strong knowledge of accounting rules (GAAP), be process-oriented in the application of these rules and lead the Company in managing and improving its general ledger applications and its system of internal controls.

The Controller will have an exciting opportunity to build the accounting team and act as a finance lead selecting and implementing a new ERP system.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the accounting team including design and staffing of organizational structure for achieving the department's goals and objectives. 
  • Establish new financial systems and ensure all systems and controls reflect best practices for critical financial processes.
  • Oversee and ensure the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, including but not limited to, monthly financial statements, regulatory and bank reporting. 
  • Identify, capture and report on meaningful financial results and KPIs to aid in decisions making and analysis for FPA & internal management. 
  • Lead accounting and integration effort for potential acquisitions/mergers.
  • Coordinate and lead fiscal year end audit. Responsible for GAAP analysis and compliance.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policy, financial processes and internal controls, which verify and maintain the integrity of company assets and data.
  • Review contracts and agreements for financial impact and compliance with company policies.
  • Create a positive team environment and ensures team is operating in a manner consistent with core values.
  • Establish accounting team & systems necessary to bring accounting function completely in house. 
  • Set and administer corporate accounting policy, processes and controls.
  • Lead accounting reporting streams including; monthly close, financial statement preparation, annual audit, bank reporting, technical accounting for transactions.
  • Ad hoc projects and data request.

 

Qualifications

·         Education:

o   Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA is required.

·         Experience:

o   Minimum of 10+ years’ work experience in corporate accounting/finance/treasury and 7+ years management experience. Prefer a mix of public/private accounting.

o   Telecom experience is a plus.

o   Experience implementing new accounting systems a plus.

 

·         Key Competencies:

o   Strong organizational and planning skills.

o   Excellent communication skills, oral and written. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to create and deliver presentations, respond to Q&A and influence in both small and large groups. 

o   Ability to analyze and interpret technical accounting guidance.

o   Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Location:  High Point, NC or Waynesboro, VA
