Responsible for identifying solutions and completing maintenance and repair work on the organization's facilities and properties. This associate must have reliable personal transportation and be able to travel daily to various locations within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.   The associate will perform strenuous work on a regular basis and must be able to work occasional evenings and/or weekends, while also answering emergency calls as needed.  This position is responsible and will be held accountable for behaving in accordance with divisional and organizational RISE values and expectations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. With minimal supervisory assistance, identifies and implements solutions for assigned maintenance tasks, which can involve plumbing, electrical, and general handyman tasks (ex. dry walling, painting, fixture repair and assembly, etc.)
  2.  Assesses the need for supplies or tools and purchases necessary items in a timely manner.  
  3. Updates our computerized maintenance management system in a timely manner as assigned tasks are completed or issues arise that prevent completion.
  4. Tracks mileage and other reimbursable expenses and submits properly completed expense report at least once per month. 
  5. Performs all assigned tasks in a safe, workmanlike manner, and in accordance with any local building code requirements.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Receives and dispatches emergency tickets.

2.     Clock in and out for work shifts and lunch on the company’s timekeeping system.

3.     Complete required monthly safety training and any other required training.

4.     Other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:


1.   High school diploma or equivalent.

2.  3-5 years of previous experience in general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC and other general maintenance activities.

3.  Must have own reliable transportation and valid “clear” driver’s license and be able to drive to any locations within the Goodwill market area.

4.  Able to manage time effectively, including prioritizing assignments to ensure that the most critical work orders are completed in a timely manner.

 Preferred Qualifications:


1.  5+ years of previous experience in general carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, HVAC and other general maintenance activities.

2.  Experience performing maintenance tasks in Class A, B, and C buildings.

3.  Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with supervisor to ensure safe and effective performance of assigned jobs and associated documentation of tasks


Physical  Demands

Heavy -
Lifting 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds.   Lifting and/or carrying of objects of up to 100 pounds. Must be able to operate and manipulate tools and equipment and to push, pull and grasp objects.  Specific vision abilities required include color vision, close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment


High - Frequently exposed to extreme atmospheric conditions including fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  Includes regular work near moving mechanical parts, and in varying conditions of extreme heat, extreme cold and wet and/or humid.
